Gerunds and Infinitives




A gerund is a noun made from a verb by adding "ing."

You can use gerund negative or affirmative form. You can use an geriund as the subject:

Example negative: I have Driving

Example affirmative: I prefer not driving

As subjects: Owning a car cost a lot is expensive



Infinitives are the "to" form of the verb. You can use an infinitive as the subject.


Some verbs are followed by infinitives: She wants to go to a movie.


Example as a subject: It cost a lot to own car
